"I think there is not a man in the world who hasn't wished his penis had been an inch or two lengthier," says Michael O'Leary, MD, professor of urologic surgical procedure at Harvard Healthcare College along with a urologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
However, following much more than the usual century of usually doubtful and sometimes lunatic penis enlargement makes an attempt, there is nonetheless not a lot you are able to do. Sure, there are tons and lots of supposed options available -- penis tablets, lotions, brutal stretching exercises, horrific-looking devices, and penis surgical procedure. Nearly none of it really works. The few methods that may function frequently have modest advantages and severe side effects. How severe? In a few cases, erectile dysfunction-serious.
"Trust me, if I understood of a method to safely and successfully increase penis dimension, I would be a billionaire," O'Leary tells WebMD. "But I do not. Nobody does."
Nonetheless, common sense doesn't stop size-obsessed men from attempting very sketchy treatments on a important component of their anatomy -- and risking a great deal within the process.
How Small Is a Little penis?
Believe you are smaller sized than typical? You are most likely not.
The typical erect penis is generally five to six inches lengthy having a circumference of 4 to five inches. There's more variation within the dimension of flaccid penises.
Some men are truly smaller sized than that. In rare instances, genetics and hormone issues trigger a situation called micropenis -- an erect penis of under 3 inches. Sometimes Peyronie's illness or prostate most cancers surgery can decrease a guy's dimension.
But research show that the majority of the guys seeking penis enlargement are average-sized. They just believe they are beneath average.
Why? Part of it's perspective. It is very difficult to gauge the size of your personal penis -- searching down, you've got a bad angle.
Psychology plays a role, as well. Some average-sized men turn out to be obsessed with the concept that they are too small. There's even a psychiatric prognosis: penile dysmorphic disorder. It's much like the perceptual distortion of anorexics who think they're fat no matter how thin they get.
According to one research, the majority of men who get penis enlargement surgical procedure have this condition. They are also the minimum satisfied using the results.
